Nearly everyone arrives by air, and most long-haul flights land in Auckland. From there a dense domestic network reaches almost every region — flying an hour often saves a full day of driving.
International gateways
| Airport | Code | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Auckland | AKL | Busiest by far; separate international and domestic terminals |
| Christchurch | CHC | Main South Island gateway, one combined terminal |
| Wellington | WLG | Trans-Tasman and Pacific services plus all domestic |
| Queenstown | ZQN | Trans-Tasman services; daylight-hours operation and weather-sensitive |
| Dunedin | DUD | Limited trans-Tasman services |

Landing and moving on
- At Auckland, allow a decent gap between an international arrival and a domestic connection — you clear biosecurity, collect bags and move between terminals.
- Domestic flights are relaxed: turn up 45 to 60 minutes ahead, and on smaller aircraft your bag weight matters more than usual.
- Regional airports are often tiny, with no public transport and few taxis waiting. Book your ride ahead if you're arriving late.
- Queenstown flights are the most likely in the country to be delayed or diverted by weather. Leave slack in your plans there.
If your flight moves, tell us the new number rather than cancelling. We track arrivals and adjust the pickup time, and there's no charge for a flight delay outside your control.
We meet flights at every main airport and most regional ones, with a fixed price quoted before you book and a driver waiting in arrivals with your name.
Common questions
- Which airport should I fly into?
- Auckland for the North Island and most long-haul routes, Christchurch for the South Island. Queenstown suits a southern-only trip if the connection works.
- How long should I leave between international and domestic flights?
- At least three hours in Auckland. You clear customs and biosecurity, recheck bags and change terminals.
- Do small regional airports have transport into town?
- Often very little. Arrange a transfer in advance, especially for evening arrivals.
- Can you meet me at a regional airport?
- Yes. Give us the flight number and we'll be there when you land, with the fare agreed beforehand.
